What if my Bad Breath comes from the stomach? 
This is an "old wives' tales". Bacteria that live in the mouth and throat use the same metabolic pathway to break down proteins to smells. Methionine ( which is in almost every food we eat), is one of the amino acids broken down to smells. These smells can be rotten meat and faecal smells. This is why the assumption was made that bad breath comes from the stomach or the gut. But mouth bacteria that live in the gums and at the gag reflex on the tongue also break down Methionine to these rotten meat and faecal smells. Every patient we have tested since our inception in 1997 has reading of methionine from the mouth.
